This world of ours is once again Facing the threat of war, Yet the more I think about it, The more I wonder what it’s for. What could be so important that It’s worth so many lives? Why should so many persons lose Their sons or daughters, husbands or wives? Is there no care for human life, The sacred right to be, Free to live without the fear Of becoming a mere casualty? Just a part of collateral, In the game of power and might, Where the few feel free to deny the many Of that most basic human right? How can anyone justify Such heartless acts of war, Where the innocent are the ones who pay For the choices made from far? Choices that the many had No input in or choice, But yet must bear the consequence, Though they haven’t the slightest voice! Yet they are the pawns, the ones whose Lives are mercilessly torn apart, Family, friend, husband, wife, and child, No one really matters, no one shows a heart! When the rule of thumb is politics, And impunity is born, The end result is mass destruction, And a nation all forlorn! A nation left to face a future Where it has been destroyed, Its population decimated, Its economy now void. Its families all broken, Some forced to leave their home, To seek refuge elsewhere, Displaced, disconsolate and insecure with fear. No power, no oil, no self esteem Is worth a human life; And yet this planet we call Earth Is always torn with strife. My hope is that our human race Will put God in its heart, For if our lives are lived for Him, No war can ever start. © Copyright by The Poet Way
