Did you ever stop to ponder, And take a look around? To pay attention to the world you’re in Where beauty doth abound? The beauty of a butterfly, So small, fragile, yet grand, The awe inspiring colour scheme That makes each one out stand? The little birds that fly around And chirp and sing their song, The sweet chorus of sounds and notes They add to Nature’s vibrant throng. The sounds of crickets out at night That punctuate the air, Reminding gently to us all Again, the night is here. The beauty of a rose in bloom, The sweet scent that it gives, The fragrance of the lemongrass, Or of lemon trees or leaves. Do you ever think of fluffy clouds And all the shapes they’re in, Or a pretty, starry light filled sky That crowns the world within? And how does an apple taste so good, And still nourish us so well, And all the great, delicious fruits And vegetables to tell. The shapes, and tastes and colours, The textures that they bring, The special gift each one has To keep us well within. The many fish that swarm the seas, From huge to very small, Each one unique in its own way, And they inhabit the oceans all. Do you ever think how raindrops form, And why we need the rain, How a tiny seed becomes a plant, And how important is the grain? The very grain that feeds us all, Or how the rice is grown, For rice is also a staple food, As everywhere it’s known. How did we even learn to use The gifts that Nature gave, How did our ancestors figure out, The uses that they have? Did you ever wonder how across the world, Cuisines take the same ingredients And magically make a dish Unique and vastly different? And then the most intriguing one, It’s us, the human being, The awesome gifts with which we come, The talents that we bring. The ability to think and choose, To invent and to create, To be the steward of Nature’s gifts, And to appreciate. To take good care of what we have, For ourselves and those to come, To look around with caring eyes, For the Nature of our Home. © Copyright by The Poet Way
