I sit alone, so all alone, And into the darkness stare, My thoughts are only thoughts of you, And wishing you were here. In my mind’s eye I see your face, And feel your gentle touch, I hear the rhythm of your heart, A sound that means so much. I hear the birds a’ singing, They’re whispering your name, The twinkling stars all shine for you, The full moon does the same. The roses are in full bloom, And all because of you; The dahlias and the daffodils, They, too, bloom for you. The sweet and gentle scents of night, Are ‘specially sweet for you, The flowery perfumes fill the air, As does the delicate dew. And suddenly, in the still of night, A shrill sound breaks my thoughts, I slowly, carefully look around, You’re not here, where you ought. And now, again, I’m all alone, Alone, and in the dark, And you, my dear, are nowhere near, But only in my heart. © Copyright by The Poet Way
