With age comes reason, Or so we hope; Let’s reflect on what we’ve seen, On what has passed, and what should have been. Let’s think of actions we may have taken, That, in retrospect, were wrong, That though we had no bad intent, The impact has been far and long. We go through life consumed with thoughts and attitudes that impart, More harm than good to those Whose place should be foremost in our heart. Those who depend on our love and support To build their confidence, Which unwittingly we undermine And shake their very essence. Remember, folks, it’s give and take, No one is always right, Everyone deserves to be heard, And their voice be given light. Whether it be spouse or child, colleague, friend, or who, We owe respect, and thoughtfulness, Objective kindness too. “Easy words turn away wrath”, Martha used to say, She spoke many, many insightful words, And was right in many a way! The power of kindness and empathy Of consideration and thought, Can do much good to a human heart, Positive fulfillment, as it ought. A happy heart brings a happy mind, Which brings a happy person, With confidence he or she can achieve, Whatever goals and ambitions. Knowing that you are believed in, And are greatly valued too, Makes it natural that you believe In the power you have in you. But if instead, we choose to be Controlling, unkind, untrue, And make it all about ourselves, No matter what we do, We run the risk of hurting those Whom we should hold most dear, Sooner or later the damage caused Will all become most clear! Self doubt, lack of confidence, Anger and frustration, Feelings of being all alone, Of emotional desolation. The power of the mind is such, It can be crippling; Because the things that should have built one up, Were used to tear one down. So rather than be self obsessed, And see not what we do, Let’s stop to think that each of us, Has equal right to be. Let’s not impose our will upon The lives and souls of others, Or think that we alone are right, And that none else really matters. We are all of equal value, In the sight of God, He made us in His Image, Imbued us with his Love. Let’s encourage, nurture and reinforce, Happiness, success and peaceful minds, That each can reach their best potential, And enjoy a Blessed life. © Copyright by The Poet Way
